Byrnes Captures 7th South Carolina High School Football Title in Nine Years

Byrnes is back on-top in South Carolina's Class AAAA Division I.

The Rebels, who were expected to be in a rebuilding year, captured its seventh title in nine years with a 34-14 win over perviously unbeaten and nationally-ranked Dorman.

The Spartanburg Herald-Journal reports that the Rebels, who had to find a replacement for star running back Marcus Lattimore, who is now starring at South Carolina, rolled behind junior running back Shakeem Wharton.

Myrtle Beach Tops South Pointe for South Carolina 3A Football Title

Myrtle Beach quarterback Everett Golson, gave his verbal commitment to Notre Dame on Thursday, and then ended his high school career in a big way with two second half touchdown passes to lead the Seahawks to a 27-23 win over South Pointe in the 3A championship game.

The Myrtle Sun News reports that the Seahawks won their second state title in three years by overcoming a nine-point second half deficit.

Central Stops Dillon's Drive for Three-Peat for South Carolina 2A Football Title

Central scored 13 points in the final minute of Saturday's 2A championship game to defeat 2-time defending champ Dillon 20-17.

The Florence Morning News reports the comeback avenges back-to-back title losses to Dillon.

Northwestern Captures South Carolina High School Football Gold

After finishing runner-up in 2008 and 2009, Northwestern finally broke through to win the Class AAAA Division II championship.

Northwestern beat Greenwood 42-10 Friday night. The State reports that Northwestern claimed the gold medal on the strong arm of Tennessee-bound Justin Worley, who finished his senior season with a state record 5,315 yards passing and 64 touchdowns, which is also a state record.
